According to old folks, early settlers of the place came mostly from the Ilocos provinces and from the western part of Pangasinan. They were lured by the rich fertile soil of the place and the abundant supply of water that could make farming an all year round activity. These early settlers were so industrious and hardworking that they till the land from dawn until dusk . Their hardwork pains and labor were all rewarded at the end of harvest season because of the bountiful harvest they have gained. In return they offered thanks and prayers to God through the intercession of San Jose – the patron saint of the workers and laborer . These hardworking settlers adopted their patron saint’s name and later named the place San Jose.
